A report on European media reveals the anomaly of Italian news: as the screen creates fears of society

The European Observatory on Security
released a report on media representation and social perception of the news showing a net difference between reality and information, and then between that which focuses on the media attention and what people really feel.
In the specific case of Italy in the last three years, concerns about the economic trends have increased significantly (as in Europe). Unemployment is the item that most concerned the average Italian from a 28 percent in 2005 to 51 percent in September 2010. The quality of health and social services is part of the second on its list of concerns and remained stable over the years. Bronze medal for an item in decline is immigration, which dropped from 11 percent in 2005 to 9 percent in 2010.

to investigate: the photograph of the topics covered by the national news shows clearly that it gives space to the first domestic policy (17 percent against a European average of 10 percent), then we talk about morality and society (13 percent vs. 5 percent) and crime (10 percent vs. 5 percent). In Europe we talk more than foreign policy, jobs and the economy. In Italy mash of politicians, grandmothers, young immigrants in Italy and thieves and murderers. The public is concerned about the job but the Italian media does not talk much, preferring the theme crime and domestic policy.
Let's see in detail how the news can be divided this task:
Mediaset is the channel that devotes more space to crime, chased by Rai. TG1 and TG5, in particular, talk about it every day, creating a process that is called for "pervasive crime" while the other European channels dealing with the same news for days in Italy we tend to use news 'disposable'. One day a son kills his mother with a hammer, a day after the next take out his wife and son, aunt, nephew bar on the third day in his grandparents house to steal his board. There is no continuity, only the macabre pleasure in telling every day a new episode of violence. Only Rai3 and Rete 4 (which prefers to speak other) deviate from this trend. The fact is that media representation of a fear that does not exist, unless a lesser extent, helps to improve the perception of this problem
. According to the research, in fact, the number of crimes has remained stable over the years. What has increased is the number of reports on criminal acts, with a tip touched the year 2007 (more accurately when there was a change of government, from Prodi to the landslide victory of the Northern League and PDL: instrumental use of security issue?), growth of the news that raised the level of perception in some cases doubling of the number of crimes actually committed.

But a person might say, in Italy there is organized crime that contributes to the newsworthiness of these events. But this unfortunately is not true. Indeed, from April 5 to June 4, 2010, for example, were given the news in prime time something like 15 thousand reports of violent crimes (ie excluding thefts, robberies and drugs) against 1947 on the theme of the mafia.
And if we carry the European comparison, here are the most dramatic results. Take Rai1: Based on data from the first quarter of 2010, the issuer
Italian
a media representation of crime news
double
